This should come as no surprise, since Iron Maiden fans are among the most dedicated in the world, but the band has just topped out Billboard.com's Hot Tours list with the highest grossing tour of the week, thanks to a six-show run in Europe which grossed $8.5 million.
A total of 121,280 fans attended the shows, including two nights at the O2 Arena in London. Adding in this summer's European dates for a total of 45 shows, overall ticket sales from the Maiden tour exceed $42 million.
Next up for Maiden is a run of North and South American dates, bringing an end to their world tour by October 2 (although AJ Maddah, promoter of Australia's Soundwave festival, tweeted last week that he's trying to book the band for an Australian tour too). The current Maiden England World Tour (in support of the recently re-released Maiden England live video from 1988) began in the summer of 2012 with three months worth of arena and outdoor amphitheater shows in the U.S. and Canada.
