Jack White is the anonymous donor who contributed $142,000 to save Detroit’s historic Masonic Temple from foreclosure, the Detroit Free Press has revealed. The massive temple, which covers an entire city block, contains two theaters that have served as venues for the likes of The Rolling Stones, The Who and Jimi Hendrix.

White, a Detroit native, has performed at the Temple numerous times. "Jack's donation could not have come at a better time, and we are eternally grateful to him for it," said Detroit Masonic Temple Association president Roger Sobran. "Jack's magnanimous generosity and unflinching loyalty to this historic building and his Detroit roots is appreciated beyond words." White’s contribution clears a tax debt incurred by The Temple. The Temple’s Cathedral Theater, which seats 1,586 patrons, will be renamed The Jack White Theater in the musician’s honor.
