Gibson Poll

The votes have been tallied for Gibson.com’s recent poll, “Should beginner guitarists learn on an electric or an acoustic?” and the results are perhaps not surprising.

By a more than 3 to 1 margin, respondents voted overwhelmingly in favor of the acoustic.

Gibson’s very own King of All Guitar Teachers, Arlen Roth, understands that sentiment. “There are many reasons for starting on acoustic guitar,” says Roth.

“First of all, the acoustic demands that we bring the sound out of it, as opposed to an electric which can seem a bit much for someone who's just starting out, and most of all, the acoustic guitar tends to build up the strength in the hands and fingers more. But don't be afraid to play electric style ON the acoustic! I started on acoustic Classical, and I'm glad I did!”
