Metallica will release a limited edition silver vinyl edition of their Beyond Magnetic EP to commemorate Record Store Day on Saturday, April 21, 2012.

Beyond Magnetic features four tracks that are rough mixes of leftover songs from the Death Magnetic recording sessions of 2007 and 2008. The EP was initially released as a download-only collection following the band's 30th anniversary shows in San Francisco in late 2011.

Each of the songs was performed live during the four-night stint, then released to the band's fan club members that evening before being made available to non-fanclub fans a short while later. The songs are "Hate Train," "Just A Bullet Away," "Hell and Back" and "Rebel of Babylon."

The digital release of Beyond Magnetic sold around 36,000 copies in its first week, reaching number 32 on the Billboard charts.

Record Store Day was founded in 2007 by Eric Levin, Michael Kurtz, Carrie Colliton, Amy Dorfman, Don Van Cleave and Brian Poehner. It is celebrated globally with artists making special appearances, performances and meet and greets, while labels offer unique one-off vinyl and CD releases and other promo products on the day.
