Rudy Sarzo Quits BOC, Forms Band With Ex-Anthrax Singer

Bass legend Rudy Sarzo has left Blue Oyster Cult after four years to focus on a new band called Tred with former Anthrax singer Dan Nelson.

Sarzo has played with Ozzy Osbourne, Dio, Whitesnake and Quiet Riot. The bassist tells Ultimate Classic Rock, “Due to my scheduling with other projects that I’m doing, it became a little bit hard for me to keep a really solid working schedule with BOC. We amicably parted ways so they can find somebody who can devote more time to the band, and I can pursue other bands that I’m doing.”

Those other bands include Dio Disciples with other former Dio band members, and the anime-inspired Animetal USA, a runaway hit featuring vocalist Michael Vesccera (Yngwie Malmsteen, Loudness), drummer Scott Travis (Judas Priest, Racer X) and guitarist Chris Impellitteri.

In addition to Dan Nelson, Tred features Adrenaline Mob guitarist Mike Orlando and Twister Sister drummer AJ Pero, and Sarzo describes the music as “tribal funk metal. It’s very different from anything I’ve ever done before.” Tred is wrapping up sessions for their debut album, with further details to be announced once Orlando has wrapped up his current round of Adrenaline Mob touring.
