It’s official: One Direction’s Midnight Memories is the best-selling album in the U.K. for 2013. Although the release has only been out since November, the album has already sold 700,000 copies in the U.K. according to Britain's Official Charts Company, pushing it to the top of the charts. The runner up, Emeli Sande's Our Version of Events, sold 685,000 copies this year.
“This tops an amazing year for us,” One Direction’s Liam Payne told OfficialCharst.com. “We're so excited to have the biggest-selling album in the UK this year, especially with a record we are all so proud of. We'd like to thank everyone who has bought the album, it really means a lot to us.”
Midnight Memories entered the Billboard chart at No. 1 in the U.S. this year, too. It didn’t make the Top 10 Best-Selling Albums of 2013 in the U.S., but One Direction’s prior album, Take Me Home, ranked No. 3.
