The trailer of Woody Allen's latest film Vicky Cristina Barcelona, due out September 5, is without dialogue. Instead, an upbeat little Spanish song called "Barcelona" from virtually unknown band Giulia y Los Tellarini plays throughout.
In response, the band—which has a modest 222 friends on MySpace and released their first album on iTunes just last month—has gotten a flurry of press recently, with the Hollywood Reporter and Reuters picking up the story stateside.
Allen himself hand-picked the band after a girlfriend of one of the band members left their CD at the Barcelona hotel where he was staying.
Lead singer Giulia Tellarini told Reuters that when she found a MySpace message from one of Allen's people she thought it was a joke. "I didn't think that something like this could happen," she said.
Vicky Cristina Barcelona stars Scarlett Johansson, Penelope Cruz, and Javier Bardem.
