One of Zakk Wylde’s two prized Pelham Blue Gibson Les Paul Customs has been stolen from a tour stop in Chicago.
Zakk is currently on the road with the Experience Hendrix Tour. The guitar was stolen from his tour bus outside The Chicago Theatre. Zakk told The Chicago Tribune he brought the guitar onto his tour bus after finishing his set, and then went back in to watch the rest of the show.
When he returned at around 11:30pm to grab his leather vest, Zakk realized the vest and guitar were gone. Surveillance footage showed three men entering the bus at 10:11pm, shortly after Zakk’s tour manager had failed to lock the bus door while stopping by to stock it with food and ice for the next journey. "Nothing gets stolen off tour buses unless you don't lock them," Zakk said. "Rule number one: when you get off this (expletive deleted) bus, you lock the [expletive] door and you check the handle.”
The guitar is one of two Pelham Blue bullseye-pattern Les Pauls built for Zakk around four years ago. We talked to Zakk about these guitars in 2010, when he said his obsession with Pelham Blue went back to his SG Firebrand, a rare SG variation he owned in his early playing days.
