Body
Species
Each Les Paul Traditional is made from a figured two-piece Grade-AA maple top attached with ultra-strong Franklin Titebond 50 glue to a solid, one- or two-piece Grade-A mahogany body.
Tonal Characteristics
The Les Paul Traditional’s body woods nail that legendary Les Paul combination of good clarity, definition and treble bite from the maple, and excellent depth and richness from the mahogany. This is one of the most revered wood combinations of all time, and truly offers a “best of both worlds” design in the way that mahogany and maple complement each other to offer superior resonance, sustain, depth, clarity, and definition.
Design
The Les Paul Traditional precisely follows the body lines and dimensions of the original late-’50s Les Paul Standards, with a gently arched carved top and rounded lower bout, and combines the classic tonewood combination of mahogany back and carved maple top. The body’s back is cut from one or two pieces of solid mahogany, which is then weight relieved with nine strategically placed holes to bring the weight of the final guitar within the range of the lighter vintage Les Paul Standards.
Average Weight
The average weight of the final completed body is 5.7 lbs, before neck and hardware are added.
Available Finishes
Color
The Les Paul Traditional is available in five classic ’Burst finishes which, between them, represent original examples of authentic vintage Les Paul Standards. Choose from Heritage Cherry Burst, Desert Burst, Honey Burst, Ice Tea Burst and Light Burst. Classic plain top finishes are also available in Ebony and Gold Top.

Surface Texture
Just as original ’Bursts were finished 50 years ago, the Les Paul Traditional is given a striking, well-buffed, nitro-gloss finish with a high sheen factor of 90, resulting in an instrument that looks like it was found in a case under the bed after resting for half a century.
Process
The Les Paul Traditional is hand-finished in nitrocellulose in a process that closely replicates the finishing process applied to original Les Pauls. This is closely monitored to ensure minimum build-up, in an effort to produce a finish that breathes with the guitar and enhances natural resonance, and will age elegantly and naturally to continually enhance the appearance of this reborn classic.
